COP21: Fisheries as an essential key anticipating climate change

Blue Fish organized a conference on “How sustainable fishing industry adapts to climate change and the environmental challenge? “. About sixty people including representatives from the Directorate of Fisheries, DPMA, the European Commission and the Polynesian Minister for fisheries attended the conference organized as part of “Ocean for Climate Days” of the COP21 on Thursday, December 3 .

Tamara Guirao, coordinator of the Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities, said that “all the cities of the Atlantic Arc are associated with the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and pledged to reduce their emissions by 20% by the year 2020. It would, she said, be needed to negotiating a maritime component to that commitment. The strategy for integrated development of the city should involve the inclusion of fishing communities in the developments related to climate change. This represents an opportunity to rethink the territory and forge new links between land and sea, including taking advantage of the experience of the fishing sector, as social and cultural stakeholder, economic actor and environmental player“
